METLEN Energy & Metals has signed a long-term commercial agreement with a leading American technology company for the supply of gallium, marking a major milestone for both the company and Europe's strategy to secure critical raw materials essential for next-generation technologies.

The agreement covers approximately 25% of the annual production from METLEN's planned gallium production facility in Greece. While the financial terms remain confidential, the deal is considered the first major commercial gallium supply agreement between a European producer and a leading U.S. technology company.

Strategic Boost for Europe's Critical Raw Materials

Gallium is recognized as one of the world's most strategic critical raw materials, playing a vital role in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, renewable energy systems and defence technologies.

With global production heavily concentrated in a limited number of countries, the agreement strengthens Europe's efforts to diversify supply chains and reduce dependence on external sources.

Greece at the Center of a New Industrial Value Chain

METLEN is set to become the first company in Europe to establish integrated industrial-scale gallium production, positioning Greece at the forefront of a strategic new industrial sector.

The company's gallium project has already been designated as a Strategic Project under the European Union's Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and has also secured financing support from the European Investment Bank (EIB) through the REPowerEU framework.

Mytilineos: "A New Industrial Chapter"

Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos described the agreement as a landmark achievement for both Greece and Europe.

He noted that the project represents the culmination of years of research and innovation by METLEN's teams at the historic Aluminium of Greece industrial complex, adding that the strong international demand demonstrates the strategic importance of gallium and the confidence global technology leaders place in the quality of the company's production.

Supporting Europe's Digital and Industrial Future

The agreement reinforces METLEN's growing role in Europe's industrial transformation and strengthens the continent's ambitions for greater technological autonomy.

As demand for advanced semiconductors, AI infrastructure and clean energy technologies continues to accelerate, secure access to critical raw materials such as gallium is expected to become increasingly important for Europe's competitiveness and economic resilience.
