The Presidential Mansion in Athens will host the official state reception marking the 52nd anniversary of the Restoration of Democracy, one of the country's most significant institutional commemorations.
The annual event brings together the political leadership of Greece, representatives of the judiciary, the armed forces, diplomatic corps, academia, business, culture and civil society to commemorate the return of democracy on July 24, 1974, following the collapse of the military dictatorship.
A Ceremony Honoring Greece's Democratic Legacy
Hosted by President of the Hellenic Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas, the reception honors those who contributed to the restoration of parliamentary democracy and highlights the enduring importance of democratic institutions in modern Greece.
Because of forecasts of adverse weather, this year's reception was moved indoors at the Presidential Mansion, while the traditional private meeting between the President, the Prime Minister and party leaders was also relocated to a specially prepared reception room.
Political Leaders and State Officials Attend
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, parliamentary leaders, cabinet ministers, senior judicial officials, military leadership, diplomats and invited guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
This year's reception has also drawn political attention due to the decision of several opposition parties, including SYRIZA, not to participate in the official celebration, giving the event additional political significance beyond its ceremonial character.
Celebrating Democracy and National Unity
The reception remains one of Greece's most important annual state events, symbolizing the country's democratic continuity since the end of military rule.
Musical performances by the Hellenic Navy Band and a formal reception for invited guests form part of the evening's program, reflecting both the ceremonial and historical importance of the anniversary.
