Σεισμική δόνηση μεγέθους 4,7 βαθμών της κλίμακας Ρίχτερ καταγράφηκε στις 19:46 απόψε (ώρα Ιταλίας, 20:46 στην Ελλάδα) σε μικρή απόσταση από τη Νάπολη στην Ιταλία.
Το επίκεντρο του σεισμού εντοπίζεται στην περιοχή του υπερηφαιστείου των Φλεγραίων Πεδίων και το εστιακό βάθος υπολογίζεται σε 2,6 χιλιόμετρα.
Σε πολλές συνοικίες της Νάπολης διακόπηκε η ηλεκτροδότηση και πολλοί άνθρωποι βγήκαν στους δρόμους. Μέχρι τώρα δεν έχουν αναφερθεί τραυματισμοί.
Έχουν καταγραφεί υλικές ζημιές, κατάρρευση τείχους κατά μήκος της σιδηροδρομικής γραμμής και τμήματος βουνοπλαγιάς στην περιοχή του Ποτσουόλι.
