Greece steadfastly supports the Western Balkans' EU perspective, Hatzidakis says

National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis expressed Greece's steadfast support for the Western Balkans' European perspective and noted that it is an investment in security, stability and prosperity with significant benefits both for the countries of the region and for the European Union. Hatzidakis was addressing the Finance Ministers of a Berlin Process meeting on Tuesday.

Hatzidakis referred to the Berlin Process's contribution to the socio-economic growth of the Western Balkans and the promotion of their convergence with the EU. He also pointed out the need for the efforts from all involved parties to intensify in order to speed them up.

Concluding, the Greek minister pledged that Greece, as the oldest EU member-state in the region, will actively contribute in this direction, while clarifying that there can be no deviations in terms of meeting the necessary requirements and criteria, especially the protection of democratic institutions and the rule of law.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Hatzidakis had a brief talk with the new Finance Minister of Albania Ervin Mete, to whom he expressed the Greek government's adamant positions regarding the continued detention of elected Himare mayor Fredi Beleri. He also met with the Industry, Trade and Enterpreneurship Minister of Kosovo, Roseta Hajdari, and discussed bilateral economic relations and the prospect for further deepening them.

Hatzidakis also had a brief meeting with the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all Albania Anastassios.
