Preparations for the European Political Community Summit, which Athens will host later this year, were at the center of a meeting on Friday between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Athens Mayor Haris Doukas at the Maximos Mansion.

With dozens of European leaders, government officials and international delegations expected to attend, the two sides reviewed the steps needed to ensure the capital is ready for one of the largest diplomatic events Greece has hosted in recent years.

Security arrangements, transport, traffic management and the operation of key public services were among the issues discussed, as the government and the municipality seek to coordinate their efforts ahead of the summit.

Mitsotakis and Doukas also exchanged views on matters affecting the daily life of Athens, including infrastructure projects, urban upgrades and civil protection. Both stressed the importance of close cooperation between the central government and local authorities, particularly as the city prepares to welcome thousands of visitors.

Hosting the European Political Community Summit is expected to place Athens at the center of European diplomacy for several days, with leaders set to discuss major challenges facing the continent, including security, migration, energy and competitiveness.

Greek officials view the summit as an opportunity not only to strengthen the country's diplomatic profile but also to showcase Athens as a modern European capital capable of organizing events of international importance.
