Mitsotakis Meets Newly Appointed U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle in New York

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held his first meeting in New York with Kimberly Guilfoyle, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Greece. The encounter came just days before Guilfoyle’s official swearing-in ceremony on Monday, after which she is expected to assume her post in Athens by late October.

Their discussion, described as cordial and constructive, focused on the excellent level of Greek–U.S. relations and the opportunities to further strengthen cooperation across diplomacy, security, and investment. Special emphasis was placed on energy security and Greece’s role as a reliable partner at a time of shifting geopolitical balances.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a major event where Mr. Mitsotakis underlined Greece’s strategic importance as a political, commercial, and energy bridge between India, the Gulf region, and Europe. He stressed that Greece’s geographical position and stability make it a natural hub for trade routes, energy interconnections, and broader regional cooperation.

The gathering was co-organized by the Atlantic Council and Antenna Group as part of the “Alliance for Europe and the Middle East” (AEGGIS – Alliance for Europe-Gulf Geopolitics & Investments Summit). The initiative brings together policymakers, business leaders, and experts with the aim of deepening EU cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council, particularly in areas of investment, energy transition, and regional security.

The introductory meeting with Ambassador Guilfoyle was seen as setting a positive tone for her tenure in Athens, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral ties and working closely on common challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond.
